Cosmetic Surgery

Cosmetic or Aesthetic Plastic surgery is available for nearly every part of the body. The techniques are well established and well understood by plastic surgeons who have gained specialist GMC registration in the UK.

Having treatment in hospitals and clinics with experience in caring for plastic surgery patients is also critically important to achieving success and satsfaction with the results of surgery.

Good communication and rapport between patient and surgeon is the key to achieving your goals. Mr Harley consults with each of his patients in person before and after each operation. Every patient is unique in their wishes and objectives and each operation must be discussed and planned carefully so that the objectives and limitations of the surgery are well understood.

Having cosmetic surgery is a big step emotionally and there is also a lot of information to consider. In addition, there may be different options for treatment. Before making the decision to have surgery, it is important for patients to have time to reflect and to ask further questions; Mr Harley is always pleased to have further clinic visits or correspondence without obligation.

Things to ask your Cosmetic surgery provider.

Will I meet my surgeon before the day of my operation without commitment or pressure to have surgery?

Yes, your first appointment will be with Mr Harley. He will discuss your objectives and the details of your surgery, size and shape of implants (breast augmentation).  There will be an opportunity for a second appointment before your operation and you can always correspond by phone/email if you have any queries.  You will be given a quote for the operation and, if you want to proceed, you can discuss possible dates for your operation with Mr Harley’s office.

Are there any extras or hidden costs?

The price for your operation includes pre-operative health checks, your stay in hospital, a surgical bra/garment where necessary, pain killers and antibiotics where necessary, dressing change appointments and follow up with Mr Harley for upto a year after operation.

Will my operation be in the same hospital where I have my consultation?

Yes, you will usually have your operation in the same hospital where you have outpatients appointments.  Mr Harley does cosmetic surgery in East Grinstead (McIndoe Centre), Maidstone (KIMS hospital) and Caterham (North Downs Hospital).

Is there flexibility with dates?

Yes, Mr Harley has regular operating throughout the year so it is usually possible to find a convenient date for operation.  November/December and July/August are busy times so early booking is advised.  Patients with an upcoming event (eg. Wedding, big holiday) are strongly advised to complete surgery 2-3 months beforehand - therefore, probably should aim to have first consultation 4-6 months in advance of their event.

Does my surgeon live and work full-time in the UK?

Yes, Mr Harley works full-time in southeast England.  This means that there is usually good flexibility with operating dates and he is available to provide advice and treatment if there are problems after surgery.

Is my surgeon a the 'GMC Specialist Register' as a Plastic Surgeon?

Yes, Mr Harley is on the Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery: GMC register.  He did his medical degree in London at Guy’s and St Thomas’ hospitals (MBBS 1998).  He then completed the UK Plastic Surgery Specialist Training scheme which includes passing the Intercollegiate Plastic Surgery exit exam “FRCSEd (Plast)” in 2009.

Does my treatment include an overnight stay in hosptial?

Yes, the package cost for most cosmetic operations including breast augmentation, breast reduction, tummy tuck, and facelift includes an overnight stay in hospital.  It is safe and comforting for patients who have recently had general anaesthetic surgery.  (Many providers expect patients to stay in a hotel or to travel a considerable distance back home after their operation.)

What happens if there is a problem after surgery?

If there are any emergency problems, for example bleeding or infection, these will be treated without any additional cost.  Treatment could be as simple as providing fresh dressings and some antibiotics or it could mean a further operation.  All the hospitals where Mr Harley does cosmetic surgery have 24 hour cover.  (Problems can develop several weeks after surgery and access to help can be difficult if you have chosen to have treatment overseas.)

Is there easy access for after surgery care?

Yes, usually you will have a dressing change appointment (nurse) approximately a week after operation and Mr Harley will see you at approximately 3 weeks and then 3 approx months after surgery.  Usually a final check-up will be scheduled at 1 year post-op.  You can also contact the hospital or Mr Harley if you have queries or problems and an appointment can be arranged at short notice if necessary.
